2014/2015 Events


Wed. April 15th 2015 6 - 9pm, Royal Ashburn - 995 Myrtle Rd. W., Ashburn                                     Visit the beautiful Royal Ashburn Golf Club and join us in Butler's to be waited on by Scott and Dave Patterson.  It might even be warm enough for some patio drinks!  All funds raised will be donated to ALS Canada.

Thu. April 16th 2015 5:30, Herongate Barn Theatre - 2885 Altona Rd., Whitevale                         Join Hearts Champion, Ian McCutcheon, for a truly unique dinner theatre experience! Cocktails begin at 5:30pm with a silent auction and raffle, followed by a 4-course dinner and show. Skin Flick begins at 8pm. This hilarious play has 'em rolling in the aisles! Tickets for this event are $65 each. Please contact Ian at 905-706-4017 or visit Herongate to purchase tickets. All funds raised will be donated to ALS Canada.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Hearts Champion, Matt Cardwell, who recently hosted celebrity bartending events at his Royal Oak locations.  Thank you to Craig Venn & Mike Luck (aka "Lucky") from 94.9 The Rock and to Mayor Don Mitchell, Regional Councillor Elizabeth Roy and North Ward Councillor Derrick Gleed for pouring all those cold pints! Thank you also to everyone who came out to join us and participated in our fundraising initiatives. Together you helped Matt to reach his Hearts Champion goal of $5,000!!!  All funds raised will be donated to ALS Canada.

Our heartfelt gratitude also goes out to Hearts Champion, Ian McCutcheon, who also recently hosted a celebrity bartending event at The Bear in Pickering. Thank you to Michael Angemeer, President and CEO of Veridian; Kathy McKay, Executive Director of Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade; and Doug Bray, Manager at Meridian, who served patrons with a British flare and helped raise funds for ALS Canada.

Thank you to Hearts Champion, Ian McCutcheon, and Ted Manikas for hosting another successful Celebrity Bartending event at The Crooked Uncle on Thursday February 26th.  Thank you to everyone who attended and helped raise over $1,500 in support of ALS Canada Durham Region.

HEARTS MONTH - Coins for a Cause

Hearts Month

During the month of February, we celebrated "Hearts Month" through our Coins for a Cause initiative. Thank you to everyone who shared the love and supported ALS Durham by purchasing a heart for a loonie at any of the participating locations. Your support helped raise $615.  Participating venues included:



The Hearts of Durham Raffle draw was held on January 21st 2015 at  LIVEact Theater.  Thank you to everyone who supported ALS Durham Region by purchasing tickets. $10,000 in prizes were won!  Congratulations to all of the winning tickets!

SIP & SPARKLE Christmas Shopping Spree - LiveAct Theatre

Thank you to everyone who joined us at LIVEact Theater on Monday December 1st 2014 for a FUN and FABULOUS Christmas shopping spree.  Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers while shopping Stella & Dot's boutique-style collection of jewellery, bags and scarves.  All profits from the evening were donated to ALS Canada. Thank you to our team members, Roxanne and Rebecca, for organizing and donating the proceeds.

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE -Gathouse Salon & Spa, Oshawa

Thank you to all who joined us for shopping and socializing on Tuesday November 18th 2014 at Gatehouse Salon and Spa for their 17th annual Christmas event.  Guests kicked off the Holiday Season with drinks, appetizers, a silent auction, door prizes and draws, as well as the biggest sale of the year on Redken salon products.  A total of $1,620 was raised in support of ALS Canada. Thank you to Gatehouse Salon & Spa for your support!

AN EVENING OF BACHELORS - In association with Stilettos for the Cure

On Thursday October 23rd,  Stilettos for the Cure hosted their 3rd annual Evening of Bachelors at Shrimp Cocktail. A fabulous time was had by all and the event raised $6,700 in support of ALS Canada! 

Thank you to Stilettos for the Cure for partnering with us to host this event in support of our Charity of Choice for 2014/2015, ALS Canada. A HUGE Thank You to all of our amazing Bachelors for being such great sports for this cause!  Thank you also to Shrimp Cocktail for hosting and to everyone who donated products, services and/or sponsored this event.

GRAND OPENING - I Do Bridal Boutique

Thank you to all who attended the Grand Opening of I Do Bridal Boutique in Courtice on Saturday October 18th 2014.  Guests enjoyed a Silent Auction, a trunk show by Romantic Bridal and fantastic giveaways, including a free wedding gown, photobooth package and engagement session!  A portion of the sales was donated to ALS Canada - Thank you to I Do Bridal Boutique for helping raise $750!


ALS Ice Bucket Challenge


ALS Canada nominated us and on Wednesday August 20th we proudly accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!  Check out our Facebook page to watch us being soaked by a tractor!

On Monday September 1st, Hearts Champions former Hearts member Sian Gibson and long-time Hearts supporter Rocky Varcoe, hosted the BIGGEST Ice Bucket Challenge ever at LIVEact Theater in Whitby.  Over 130 people (and a very cute puppy) lined up to be doused with ice water.  With the support from our local community, the event raised over $10,000 in support of ALS Canada!  A HUGE thank you to Sian and Rocky for organizing such an amazing event.  Thank you to each and every participant, the donors, news crews, Whitby Dunlops and everyone else involved.  Without your generosity and support, amazing events like this wouldn't be such a resounding success.

For the month of July the Royal Oak - Whitby Shores and the Royal Oak - Whitby ran Coins for a Cause in support of ALS Canada.  Thanks to the generosity of their patrons, they helped raise $1,100 in support of ALS Canada!  Thank you to Matt Cardwell, owner of the Royal Oak locations and thank you to everyone who donated. 



Walk for ALS

There was a great turnout in Port Perry on Saturday June 21st 2014 for the annual nationwide 2014 Walk for ALS.  Thank you to everybody who supported Roxanne's fundraising efforts and to all who were there to walk or cheer the walkers on.  All funds raised are used to assist in providing equipment, support services, education and research to find a cure for this devastating, deadly disease.



2013/2014 Events

Pre-Gala Online Auction

In the days leading up to our 9th Annual Gala Event, we experimented with offering an online auction for the first time.  Auction items included a restored classic 1983 Hurst Oldsmobile, a NEW hand-crafted cedar strip canoe, priceless holiday packages, jewellery, ATV, Scooter, and more.  Congratulations to our winning bidders and Thank You to everyone who participated in helping to raise funds for Durham Children's Aid Foundation! 


Gus Brown's Drive for Hearts Event

On Saturday September 28th 2013, Gus Brown hosted a fundraising event at their Whitby location - for each person who came out to test drive a car that day, they generously donated $25 to the Hearts of Durham Charity of Choice for 2013/2014, Durham Children's Aid Foundation.  Thank you to the wonderful staff at Gus Brown in Whitby and to everyone who came out to offer their support.
