Building a Stronger Community

Hearts of Durham Raises a Record $58,000.00

The event was hosted by Hearts of Durham, a volunteer group made up of seven women who all reside in Durham region.
The monies raised were donated to Herizon House, a 24 hour crisis centre for abused
women and their children. With the funds raised, Herizon House are planning on
opening a storefront in Pickering Village called “New Starts from the Hearts”. The
storefront is intended to provide local women with a “hand up rather than a hand out” to
support them on their journey toward safety and independence.
Corporate and public support for the fundraising event was exceptional. “Hearts of
Durham would like to thank each of our corporate sponsors who helped us in facilitating
such a high quality event including Gold Sponsor Flaherty Dow Elliott & McCarthy and
Hearts Sponsors Durham Regional Police Services, OPG, PBI Office Interiors, and
Veridian Corporation” stated Hearts of Durham Volunteer and Brooklin resident, Dana
Baltovich. “We would also like to thank the businesses and residents of Durham region.
With their support we were able to gather together an impressive array of auction items
as well as sell out our tickets in only four weeks. Our community has demonstrated what
an incredible place it is in which to live, work and play.”
Hearts of Durham supports a different charity each year and raises funds by organizing
a dinner benefit with a live and silent auction. The group is very pleased to announce it
will be supporting the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation for its 4th annual benefit on
April 18th, 2009. Be sure to visit http://www.heartsofdurham.com for further updates and be
